Before joining Pac/West in 2019, Daniel was the managing editor of the East Oregonian daily newspaper. During his decade as an editor, the newspaper won the Oregon Newspaper Publisher Association’s General Excellence award nine times, including all five years under his tenure as the managing editor. He also earned individual recognition for editorials, columns, page design and headline writing in the annual Better Newspapers contest.
In his role at the East Oregonian, Daniel explored the full scope of issues affecting rural Oregon, from natural resources and economic trends to education and health to tourism and public safety. He interviewed the state’s top officials and elected representatives as well as local public and private leaders. He also helped organize the annual Eastern Oregon Forum, a panel discussion held at Blue Mountain Community College addressing rural issues.
Daniel grew up in Hermiston and has made Eastern Oregon his home since graduating from Corban University in 2005 with a B.A. in English. He lives in Hermiston with his wife and two children. He’s a Rotarian, an Eastern Oregon Mission board member and a SMART reader for Head Start.
