CASE STUDY: Oregon State Building and Construction Trades Council
The Oregon State Building and Construction Trades Council (Council) is a key part of Oregon’s green building movement. Composed of 21 unique trades, the Council has worked to create business opportunities with union construction workers and contractors throughout the state. The Council operates apprenticeship and journeyman training programs, and has organized career fairs for former US military members through its Helmets to Hard Hats Program. Although technologies are constantly changing, the Council is steadfast in its commitment to professional and safe building practices.
Since 1994 Pac/West has been retained by the Council for comprehensive public relations, brand management and outreach services. Over the course of our long working relationship, our team has generated a significant amount of earned media for the Council through targeted media pitches, press releases and newspaper editorials. Our efforts have been effective in promoting the Council’s brand and core interests. In addition, we have successfully planned numerous Council events, including its annual conventions, political rallies and debates.
Our creative team has also been very active for the Council. We designed the organization’s logo, created a family of advertising materials and developed a new Council website using a modern content management system. We also wrote, designed and distributed brochures and endorsement letters in support of outreach campaigns and developed and maintain a member newsletter.
In addition to PR and creative communications, the Pac/West lobby team provides government affairs services for the Council. We have helped the Council develop its legislative agenda, draft bills, and testify before committees. We have coordinated meetings between lawmakers and Council members; helped members get appointed to decision-making boards; and have prepared Legislative Session Reports, detailing legislative actions for Council management.
