Q: What's your best tip about media relations?
A: Success is more often than not a game of numbers. It’s about casting a wide net and having a plan B.
Q: Describe a project you are particularly proud of completing.
A: One of the greatest challenges in communications is putting a new take on old news. And making news in order to make the news is no easy task. This made successfully launching the Drive Less/Save More Family Challenge for Metro and its partners so very sweet. In less than a month, we found three local families to compete against themselves to reduce their mileage for one week. KGW News Channel 8 was secured as a media sponsor. The station posted nightly blogs from the families on its web site, as well as aired multiple news stories. The coverage well-demonstrated how practical and beneficial transportation options like bussing and carpooling can be for ordinary families.
Q: What do you like best about your job?
A: You never know exactly what’s coming next. Opportunities, as well as crises, pop up sometimes weekly, if not daily. Plus, there’s always some intriguing challenge to overcome. How do we cut through the clutter and capture people’s attention? What will it take to move public opinion or change behavior?
Q: What is it really like to be a Pac/West team member?
A: There’s nothing better than being a part of a top-notch team that you can have fun with too!
Q: Where do you go when you need an information fix?
A: When I need to find out what’s going on in the world, I call my mother. She’s the most well-read and informed person I know.
Q: How often do you cut your hair? Describe your worst haircut.
A: It wasn’t so much a haircut, rather the first time I colored my hair. It was during the eighth grade. My friends and I thought it would be cool to have highlights in our hair for school pictures. Instead of trendy blonde highlights, my hair turned bright orange. I was petrified.
Q: What cartoon character best describes you?
A: I'd have to say Bugs Bunny—smart and able to get out of a fix.
Q: What do you like to do when you are not at work?
A: Be with friends and family.
Q: If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be and why?
A: It would be a dream to live abroad in Italy for a year to fully take in the culture, rich history, art and cuisine (not to mention the wine).
Q: What do you like to read the most, and why?
A: Newspapers…I get into all the different topics and all of the day’s happenings.
Q: If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
A: If I had to pick just one food only, it would have to be ice cream. So many flavors and I just don’t seem to get enough of it.
Q: What is the furthest away/most impressive place you have traveled to?
A: Of all the cool places I’ve been, the most impressive was the Louvre in Paris. What a treasure trove of humanity.
Q: Describe one goal you wish to accomplish sometime in your life.
A: I’d like to manage a national campaign in the not too distant future. Just for fun, I’d like to tour Europe for a few months.
Q: Red or white wine?
A: Red wine! It’s complex character and richness is a sure treat to the taste buds.
